Overview of Acupuncture for Pain and Stress
What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese medicine practice that involves inserting thin needles into specific points on the body to promote healing and well-being.
Benefits of Acupuncture for Pain Relief
Research shows that acupuncture helps to relieve pain by releasing pain relieving neurotransmitters, as well as physically releasing muscle tightness by relieving tight bands of muscle and myofascial trigger points.
Benefits of Acupuncture for Stress Relief
Research shows that acupuncture helps to relieve physical symptoms of stress by balancing the body's nervous system, reducing cortisol levels, relieving pain, and promoting relaxation/sleep.
Acupuncture for Physical Symptoms of Stress
Pain
Acupuncture helps relieve chronic and acute pain caused by stress, including back pain, neck pain, and joint pain.
Anxiety
Acupuncture reduces anxiety and promotes relaxation by stimulating the nervous system and balancing hormones.
Headaches
Regular acupuncture sessions can reduce the frequency and severity of stress and muscle tightness induced headaches and migraines.
Digestion Issues
Acupuncture improves digestion and alleviates stress-related gastrointestinal problems by regulating gut function and reducing inflammation.
Muscle Tightness
Acupuncture relieves muscle tension and tightness by increasing blood flow and relaxing muscle fibers by releasing myofascial trigger points.
Sleep Issues
Enhance your sleep quality and address insomnia with acupuncture, which regulates sleep patterns and calms the mind.
Menstrual Issues
Acupuncture alleviates menstrual pain and irregularities caused by stress by balancing hormones and improving blood circulation.
Fertility Issues
Support reproductive health and address stress-related fertility challenges with targeted acupuncture treatments.

Does Acupuncture Hurt?
Acupuncture: Generally, acupuncture does not hurt. Some people feel the needles as they go in, and some people feel nothing. Acupuncture needles are solid needles, not hollow like hypodermic needles, and they are much, much thinner – about the diameter of a thick human hair. Some patients often feel a slight tingling sensation and others might feel a mild, dull ache indicating the acupuncture point is being activated and the treatment is working.
“Teddy is a really lovely and skilled acupuncturist. I’m very nervous around needles and he’s been incredibly patient in navigating that. I strongly recommend Teddy to anyone looking for an UWS acupuncturist, whether you’re a first timer, nervous wreck around needles like me or an acupuncture pro.”*

“Had an acupuncture session here with Nick. They used dry needling and trigger point release to help relieve some lower back tension I had. Feels great now! The facility was clean and the staff was nice.”*
-Adam
“My experience with Teddy was excellent! He is very knowledgeable and professional. I’m a runner and I went to him for a tight hamstring. Within minutes my hamstring started to feel looser. If you are a runner or play sports, I highly recommend you going to Teddy.”*

“Teddy is very knowledgeable and patient, which made for a great first acupuncture experience. I am 6 months postpartum and the treatment was very helpful for tightness in my back and legs, from lifting/holding a growing baby all day long.”*

“I did dry needling/trigger point release with Nick and it was marvelous! Nick was very attentive and asked questions to help figure out our treatment plan specialized just for me. It was so comforting coming to an establishment that made me feel welcome, safe, and caring. I look forward to our future sessions and journey with Morningside Acupuncture!”*
